OLIVIA

My journey, spanning academic, personal and professional realms, has immersed me in diverse styles and disciplines. At the heart of my ethos is a firm belief: the confluence of community, collaboration, and connection fosters unparalleled creativity.

I received my BA in Media Studies & Communications from the University of Virginia, graduating with distinction in the spring of 2022. This rigorous academic voyage exposed me to a plethora of styles, genres, and disciplines. The rich tapestry of experiences, both academic and personal, bolstered my proficiency in translating creative visions into palpable designs.

Fast forward to today, I am the heartbeat and spirit of ROWE LLC. As a freelance graphic designer, I have had the pleasure of navigating various industries. I have honed a distinctive style, yet remain flexible and adaptable — ensuring I align with the unique standards and nuances of each client’s respective domain. My aptitude for swift learning knows no bounds, enabling me to stretch my creative prowess to the sky and beyond.

My design philosophy centers around storytelling. In my eyes, every brand is a vibrant tale waiting to be told and, in this narrative cosmos, I dedicate myself to translating these stories into designs that resonate, enthrall, and inspire every intended audience. My design realm, however, is not simply about aesthetics; rather, it’s a symphony of strategic intent and creative expression. My canvas is vast - encompassing not only visuals but aligning them potently with a brand’s ethos, its voice, and its dreams. As I balance industry conventions with a zest for innovation, I am committed to propelling brands forward with designs that are both visually exquisite and strategically robust.

prioritizing my imagination

to source inspiration

I draw inspiration from the diverse canvas of life surrounding me, whether it's the hum of a nondescript New York street, a fleeting subway advertisement, or the profound insights from fellow creators. Both in the poignant prose of my writing and the nuanced captures of my photography, the influence of those I regard as "greats" is palpable. Yet, it's paramount to differentiate between the works we intentionally reference and those that seamlessly mold our craft, guiding our principles and defining our core.

Here, "determine" and "influence" take on intricate shades of meaning. "Determine" doesn't imply a dictated route; our inspirations don't set a strict trajectory for our journeys. Conversely, "influence" doesn't beckon mere imitation—it isn't a pursuit to merely echo or mirror. These words allude to the deeper insights we extract from others—their techniques, their styles, their inquisitions, and their guiding philosophies.

Facing my personal battles with imposter syndrome and confronting occasional doubts, I deeply value the fine line between genuine emulation and sheer duplication. This nuanced understanding is a path I'm continuously traversing, as evident in endeavors like "Following Sophie Calle: A Game of Lost and Found." This project ventures into the intricate realm of what it truly signifies to "follow" another creator's legacy.

embracing my curiosity

to fuel exploration

I possess an unyielding appetite for knowledge, intensely captivated by the dynamic relationship between individuals and their surroundings. Each revelation further sharpens and elevates my worldview. I fervently believe in cultivating and celebrating our intrinsic curiosities; for it's through the enigma of the "unknown" that we delineate the realm of the "known."

At the core of our very existence pulses a fervor for discovery. I would argue that to identify as an artist is to acknowledge, at heart, an intrinsic curiosity. When we peel back the traditional archetypes of "the artist," it dawns upon us that, in distinctive ways, each one of us embodies artistic qualities. This realization doesn't stem from common passions or perspectives, but from an enduring universal sentiment: the allure of the unknown.

Although our individual paths might differ, our collective curiosities, whether parallel or contrasting, bind us. So, why do I equate this inherent curiosity with the essence of artistry? It's simple: art blossoms from questions. It beckons one to chase a thought or an idea passionately, even if clarity remains just out of grasp. The quintessential artist thrives in this ceaseless pursuit, propelled by an undying sense of wonder.
